Earl J. and Thressa Lee Hathaway Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 1985 with a bequest from Captain Hathaway, retired commander of the 7th District Headquarters of the Michigan State Police in Traverse City, to assist students pursuing their education in the field of nursing. Captain Hathaway served in the U.S. Army in World War I, earning several medals and citations. After the war, he joined the Michigan State Police in 1921 and became one of the first members of the Michigan Mounted Troops. During his 37-year career, he was stationed in Grandville, Manistee and Traverse City and was cited for bravery and meritorious service. Married for 57 years, Captain and Mrs. Hathaway passed away in 1985 and 1980 respectively.
