James J. and Dorothy A. Beckett Scholarship

The James J. and Dorothy A. Beckett Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Becketts, enthusiastic supporters of NMC and the community for half a century. Mr. Beckett is a retired manager for Michigan Bell Telephone and among the many community leaders who worked to establish the college in 1951. He was president of the Wigwam Club, a booster club preceding the current Barbecue Board, in 1960 and was then appointed a College Trustee in 1962. Mr. Beckett served on the board through 1997, including a 17-year tenure as Chairman from 1980 through 1997. For his longstanding commitment to the college and the NMC Board of Trustees, he was awarded the title Chair Emeritus when he retired from the board. Also, in 1996, the college named a new classroom building for him.
