Jerry McCarthy Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Jerry McCarthy Memorial Scholarship was originally established in 1972 as the NMC Humanities Scholarship. The name was changed in 1978 to honor the memory of Jerry McCarthy of Traverse City. The owner of Grand Traverse Title Company in Traverse City, McCarthy was appointed a trustee of NMC in 1961, to complete the term of William G. Milliken who had been elected to Governor of Michigan. Mr. McCarthy was then reelected to the Board three times, in 1963, 1970 and 1976. He served as an NMC trustee for 17 years, until his death in 1978.
