Julius "Jake" and Barbara Beers Scholarship

The Julius and Barbara Beers Scholarship was established in December 1978 by Mr. and Mrs. Beers, lifelong Traverse City residents and longtime supporters of NMC. Mr. Beers, who passed away in 2002, was the retired Chairman of the Board of Traverse City State Bank (now Fifth Third Bank ? Grand Traverse). He was a descendent of Perry Hannah, founder of Traverse City State Bank and one of the pioneers of early Traverse City. In 1968, Mr. Beers was appointed a Fellow of NMC in grateful recognition for serving as “?a faithful supporter of the Scholarship Program, as a resourceful financial counselor, and as a loyal advocate of the College in this community.” Mrs. Beers has been an active community volunteer throughout her life.
