Margaret A. "Peg" Stace Memorial Scholarship

Margaret A. "Peg" Stace Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Melba Bram of Sierra Vista, Arizona, in tribute to the half-century of friendship she shared with Margaret A. “Peg” Stace. Ms. Bram met Ms. Stace at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where Ms. Stace was the assistant to Joseph E. Maddy, Interlochen’s founder. Ms. Bram worked part-time one summer, and then returned to work full-time. In those early days, Interlochen was open only in the summer, and operated out of Ann Arbor nine months of the year. After moving to year-round operations in Interlochen, Ms. Stace and Ms. Bram became roommates, sharing an apartment in Traverse City for more than 20 years. Ms. Stace served as Mr. Maddy"s assistant, assistant to the president, and corporate secretary of the Interlochen Board, retiring in the early 1970s. Ms. Bram succeeded her as corporate secretary. In the later years of Ms. Stace"s life, Ms. Bram served as her caregiver. Ms. Stace passed away in 1995.
