Mary Alice Strom Zonta Endowed Scholarship

Mary Alice Strom Zonta Endowed Scholarship

The Mary Alice Strom Zonta Scholarship is an endowed scholarship established in 1973 by Mr. Peter Strom of Traverse City in honor of his mother. He was joined in this endowment by the Zonta Club of Traverse City to honor Strom as one of its long-standing members. Mrs. Strom moved to Traverse City in 1921 at the age of 10. She was a charter member of the Zonta I Club and a leader in the business community before many women were even accepted as part of that world. She was a member of the Munson Hospital Board and served as its chair, as well as president of the United Way. Mrs. Strom died in 1970. The Zonta Club of Traverse City is affiliated with Zonta International, a worldwide service organization of women in business and the professions. It works to advance the status of women throughout the world. Mr. Strom and the Zonta Club hope this scholarship will help other women obtain positions of leadership.
