Nellie A. Walker Memorial Scholarship

Nellie A. Walker Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Edward Walker of Traverse City established this scholarship in memory of his younger sister, Nellie, who died of lung cancer in 1997 at the age of 47. Nellie Walker grew up in Flint, but lived most of her adult life in Puerto Rico where she worked for the American government. She was a court reporter for a time, and spent the last year of her life in Traverse City with her brother and his family. Mr. Walker remembers his sister as a hardworking, creative person. This scholarship recognizes her perseverance and dedication to living a good life, despite the obstacles that often confront women.
